About This Site

The Narrow Gate was originally established on October 10, 2000 at Christian Brothers High School in Memphis Tennessee. In its first iteration, the site was simply intended as a place to post homework assignments and class policies, but after realizing the potential of the site as an additional class resource and portal to information on the internet, it quickly grew.

In January of 2005, I moved from Memphis to Raleigh, North Carolina to take a teaching position at Cardinal Gibbons High School, and the site was revised. For a period of about a year, the original CBHS site existed as a mirror for the CGHS site, but the mirror site was shut down when the CGHS site was moved to an on-campus server.

On February 20, 2007, the Kallipolis section of the site was published, specifically for students in my senior Philosophy & Religion Class, which changed its name in the Fall of 2009 to Foundations of the Catholic Worldview.

In the Fall semester of 2010, tragedy struck, and the site went offline for an extended period for the first time in a decade. October 10, 2010, which would have been the site's 10 year anniversary, came and went without it. Being a part of the CGHS main site, when that site was transferred to Finalsite, the Narrow Gate disappeared. While alternative arrangments were made, I took advantage of the time to redesign the site, and to incorporate a third section specifically for students in my senior Eccumenical and Interreligious Issues class, which I began teaching this year.

The Narrow Gate has always been designed with Microsoft Frontpage or its successor Microsoft Expression Web. For graphics I use Adobe Fireworks. The online quizzes are generated by a freeware program called Hot Potatoes.
